F.A.Q.
Ready to compete? We've compiled answers to the questions players ask most about qualifiers, league play, scheduling, partnerships, and league rules. Review the information below to help you prepare for the EBVL season.
How do I join the Edmonton Beach Volleyball League (EBVL)?
Teams must qualify through an official EBVL qualifying event unless otherwise approved by league administration. Players register and compete with a partner during qualifiers. The dates of the qualifiers are posted on the website before the start of the season. The inaugural 2026 season will feature 8 teams per division.
What divisions are available?
EBVL offers Men's Doubles and Women's Doubles divisions.
What is the match format?
Matches are expected to follow a 21–21–15 (cap 25-25-18) scoring format. One timeout is allowed per set (30 seconds). The season includes both regular season play and playoffs.
When are league matches played?
RAIN, SMOKE, OR SHINE - IT'S ON!
League matches are scheduled on Thursday evenings at the University of Alberta Beach Courts. Match times are generally:
- 6:00 PM
- 7:00 PM
- 8:00 PM
Can I change partners after qualifying?
Partner changes are discouraged. Limited substitutions or partner replacements may be approved during the 2026 season but require approval from league administration.
What happens if my partner cannot play?
If you can't make your scheduled match, the responsibility falls entirely on you to sort it out. Here are your two options to keep things running smoothly:
-
Option 1: Find a Sub from the OFFICIAL SUB LIST. You need to track down a replacement player to fill your spot.
-
Option 2: Trade Match Times You can swap time slots with other teams, but it comes with two strict rules:
-
The trade must happen on the same day as the original match.
-
You can only use the time slots assigned to both teams.
-
The switch must be mutually agreed upon by all four teams involved.
-
Important: League organizers won't manage this for you. Make sure you get any time swaps confirmed by everyone well before game time! Substitute players should be of a reasonably comparable skill level to maintain competitive balance.
Team captain must enter the player's name that played each match - HERE.
